Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Our cognitive behavioural therapists are experienced in the management of a number of conditions.

If you are struggling with anxiety, stress, low mood or have difficulty adjusting to a life setback you may wish to consider a short course of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

While these negative symptoms can represent real-life problems and cause you to feel overwhelmed or even helpless, CBT intervention can give you back control.  The CBT model itself is an interesting and educational approach to wellbeing. It is designed to help you understand and overcome problems in a more informed way, with renewed confidence and understanding.

Central to the approach is learning about how your own covert automatic thinking patterns drive your experiences day-to-day. Engaging in CBT, you learn how your own personal automatic thinking patterns can have a strong emotional impact when suffering distress or low mood.  Emotionally charged thoughts can negatively shape consequences and reinforce unhelpful behaviours.

It is the personal ways in which we think, appraise and deal with situations that influence how we experience them and manage them.  Thinking patterns can be accurate and helpful or inaccurate and unhelpful.  So, it is not so much the problems themselves that cause us difficulty but how we appraise them and how we cope with them.
